The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is gearing up to collect between Rs150 billion and Rs200 billion in Super Tax revenue during the January–March quarter, following the Federal Constitutional Court’s ruling that validated the tax.
According to a report by The News, citing senior tax authorities, the FBR is waiting for the detailed written verdict before launching an aggressive recovery drive. With only two working days left in January, the revenue body is targeting Rs50–60 billion in collections to achieve the monthly goal of Rs1,031 billion.
Officials confirmed that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has been briefed on the expected Super Tax recoveries, which could reach Rs200 billion in the wake of the court’s decision. Although total outstanding Super Tax dues stand at nearly Rs300 billion, recoveries during the current quarter are anticipated to remain capped between Rs150 billion and Rs200 billion.
Super Tax applies to high-earning businesses under a progressive structure ranging from 1% to 10%, based on annual profitability. Firms earning between Rs150 million and Rs200 million are subject to a 1% levy, which increases gradually to 10% for profits exceeding Rs500 million. The tax largely targets large corporations, banks, and other highly profitable sectors.
The Ministry of Finance has instructed the FBR to close any revenue shortfalls through tougher enforcement measures and enhanced collection mechanisms, dismissing the option of imposing new taxes to meet fiscal objectives.
In the first half of the fiscal year (July–December), FBR revenues reached Rs6,161 billion, missing the IMF-backed benchmark by Rs329 billion.
For the period ending March 2026, the FBR and IMF have agreed on a cumulative revenue target of Rs9,917 billion, requiring collections of Rs3,756 billion during the January–March quarter.
