SBP Clarifies Rs10 Note Has Not Been Discontinued

The Rs10 banknote remains in circulation and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced no deadline for its exchange, the central bank said on Thursday, dismissing claims spreading across social media.

The clarification comes as the SBP awaits the Federal Cabinet’s decision on its proposal to introduce a new series of Pakistani banknotes.

According to the central bank, the proposed new currency series does not mean that any existing denomination has been approved for withdrawal or replacement.

The SBP described reports claiming that the Rs10 note was being discontinued and that holders had been given a final date to exchange their notes as baseless and without substance.

The central bank further clarified that if any banknote is ever withdrawn in the future, the decision will be officially announced through authorised government and SBP channels.

It added that members of the public would be given sufficient time to exchange any denomination that is formally withdrawn.

The SBP urged citizens not to rely on unverified social media reports regarding the status of Pakistani currency and advised them to follow the central bank’s official communications for accurate information.
