Russia Offers Discounted Oil But Pakistan Yet to Respond

Russia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Albert Khorev, has indicated Moscow’s willingness to supply discounted crude oil to Pakistan in light of disruptions arising from the Iran conflict. However, he clarified that no formal request has yet been submitted by Islamabad. The envoy emphasised that concessional supply arrangements remain contingent upon Pakistan initiating official engagement.

He further noted that the energy sector continues to be a cornerstone of bilateral cooperation, and any advancement in oil supply agreements will depend on proactive communication from Pakistan’s side.

The offer emerges amid heightened regional instability impacting global energy markets, with Russia suggesting that Pakistan may capitalise on prevailing conditions if it proceeds with a formal approach.

Addressing the situation in the Middle East, Khorev described the conflict as volatile and urged restraint, advocating a return to diplomatic dialogue in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter.

He also condemned reported airstrikes targeting civilian locations within Iran, including a school in Minab, characterising such actions as violations of international law with the potential to further destabilise the region.

The ambassador criticised the escalation following actions attributed to the United States and Israel against Iran, asserting that there is no substantiated evidence from the International Atomic Energy Agency to support allegations of Iran developing nuclear weapons capabilities.

Reaffirming Russia’s position, he stated that sustainable regional stability is dependent upon constructive dialogue, respect for national sovereignty, and acknowledgment of the security concerns of all states involved.

Khorev also acknowledged Pakistan’s stance regarding the Ukraine conflict and conveyed interest in enhancing regional cooperation mechanisms.

Separately, Pakistan’s foreign ministry confirmed that the deputy prime minister held telephonic discussions with Azerbaijan’s foreign minister to deliberate on regional developments and bilateral relations.

In addition, Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan met with the deputy prime minister, expressing appreciation for Pakistan’s support. Pakistan, in turn, extended condolences over recent losses and reiterated that dialogue remains the preferred path toward resolution.
