Karachi Port Operations Continue Despite Strait of Hormuz Tensions

Maritime trade operations in Pakistan have continued without disruption despite prevailing geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, with oil tankers maintaining scheduled arrivals and discharge activities at Karachi Port.

According to available reports, the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) tanker MT Sargodha has successfully completed the offloading of crude oil sourced from Fujairah. Additionally, two further vessels—MT Shalimar and MT Lahore—are anticipated to berth in the coming days to discharge additional consignments of petroleum products.

In parallel, another vessel, MT Martini, is scheduled to dock for the purpose of loading surplus domestically produced fuel oil, reflecting ongoing outbound logistics operations.

Port activity has also encompassed the handling of other tankers, including MT Hafnia Henriette and MT Wan HE, both of which berthed to load cargoes of naphtha and ethanol. Meanwhile, MT Eva Gold has departed following the completion of ethanol loading operations.

Cargo handling statistics indicate that Karachi Port processed in excess of 60,554 tonnes of containerised cargo, comprising approximately 58,366 tonnes of imports and 2,188 tonnes of exports. Furthermore, two vessels discharged a combined total of 1,388 tonnes of imported soybean meal.

Export operations included the shipment of 611 tonnes of rice via three separate vessels. Overall, cumulative cargo throughput—encompassing liquid bulk, dry bulk, and containerised segments—approached 80,000 tonnes on Sunday.

Port authorities have indicated that an additional 19 cargo vessels are scheduled to berth on Monday, underscoring the continuity of maritime trade flows notwithstanding regional uncertainties.
