Sindh Seizes 267kg Ice & 60kg Heroin Worth Rs3-4bn

The Sindh Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has effected a major narcotics seizure, confiscating a total of 266 kilograms and 950 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice) and 60 kilograms of heroin, with an estimated international street value ranging between Rs3 billion and Rs4 billion, across two coordinated operations in Karachi.

Sindh Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, confirmed the successful interdiction on Tuesday, highlighting the role of the department’s narcotics control wing in District West in thwarting a large-scale drug smuggling attempt.

The first operation involved the interception of a Toyota pickup truck bearing registration number LB-8950 at the Hub Check Post. Upon thorough search, authorities discovered 240 kilograms and 350 grams of ice, along with 60 kilograms of heroin, concealed in specially fabricated secret compartments within the vehicle.

The second phase stemmed from intelligence derived from the initial arrest of a suspect, Arif Iqbal, who led enforcement teams to a warehouse in Garden West. There, officers recovered an additional 26 kilograms and 600 grams of ice, cleverly hidden inside sacks of second-hand clothing.

Minister Chawla stated that investigations remain active with the objective of apprehending other members of the smuggling syndicate. He reiterated the department’s unwavering commitment to intensifying anti-narcotics operations and eradicating drug trafficking networks across the province and the country.

This significant haul follows a separate recent interception at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, where Pakistan Customs successfully prevented the smuggling of gold and undeclared foreign currency.
