The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has generated Rs149.5 billion in tax revenue during the first half of FY2025-26 (July–December 2025), reflecting a substantial 33% year-on-year increase over the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, as detailed in a comprehensive briefing presented to Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman.

During his visit to the PRA headquarters in Lahore on Wednesday, the Finance Minister conveyed his satisfaction with the authority’s performance, noting that the province’s ongoing emphasis on fiscal discipline, institutional transparency, and targeted tax reforms continues to yield positive results.

The PRA Chairman apprised the minister that the authority remains firmly on course to achieve—and potentially exceed—its budgeted revenue targets for the full fiscal year, provided the current momentum in enforcement and compliance is sustained.

The briefing further outlined PRA’s strategic initiatives to broaden the provincial tax base by focusing on high-potential sectors, including banking and financial services, insurance, hospitality, real estate development, and emerging digital platforms such as food delivery services. These targeted efforts are projected to unlock several billion rupees in additional revenue through improved registration, monitoring, and compliance mechanisms.

Finance Minister Shuja-ur-Rehman reaffirmed the provincial government’s policy stance of prioritising expansion of the tax net, strengthening enforcement and data-driven oversight, and eradicating evasion and under-reporting, rather than introducing fresh tax burdens. He highlighted the PRA’s pivotal role in ensuring regulatory compliance, leveraging technology for real-time monitoring, and driving structural reforms to support long-term, sustainable economic growth and provincial fiscal stability.
