Jazz Launches 5G Services Across Major Pakistani Cities

Jazz has formally commenced 5G services following the acquisition of a Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) licence from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, signalling a significant advancement in Pakistan’s digital infrastructure through enhanced connectivity, accelerated data speeds, and intensified competition within the telecom sector.

The licence execution was formalised through an agreement signed by DG Licensing PTA, Aamir Shahzad, and CEO Jazz, Aamir Ibrahim, at a ceremony attended by Shehbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Chairman PTA Hafeez Ur Rehman, alongside senior representatives from both public and private sectors.

In its initial deployment phase, 5G services have been activated across approximately 180 operational sites, encompassing Islamabad, all provincial capitals, and major urban centres including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, and Faisalabad.

By leveraging an expanded spectrum portfolio, Jazz is positioned to deliver ultra-high-speed connectivity, reduced latency, and improved network stability. Concurrently, the operator is continuing to enhance its 4G infrastructure to promote broader digital inclusion nationwide.

At the launch event, CEO Aamir Ibrahim described the initiative as a foundational step toward a digitally empowered Pakistan, enabling innovation, economic growth, and technological advancement, while reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to accessible and reliable connectivity.

Jazz distinguished itself in the recent spectrum auction as the sole operator securing allocations across all major frequency bands, including 700 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz, and 3500 MHz, thereby enabling a layered network approach combining extensive coverage with high-capacity performance.

The rollout is supported by a recently घोषित $1 billion investment initiative, supplementing more than $11 billion invested in Pakistan over the past three decades. Through its digital ecosystem, Jazz currently serves over 100 million users, facilitating digital engagement across learning, financial transactions, and economic participation.

With respect to market competition, Zong has also initiated 5G services in multiple major cities, intensifying competitive dynamics and expanding access to next-generation connectivity. Meanwhile, Ufone has yet to formally launch commercial 5G services but is anticipated to announce its rollout strategy and target markets in the near term.

This development follows the successful completion of Pakistan’s 5G spectrum auction, marking a pivotal milestone in the country’s digital transformation and laying the groundwork for widespread adoption of advanced communication technologies.
