PSO Appoints New CEO Jawwad Ahmed Cheema

Pakistan State Oil Company Limited (PSO) has formally appointed Jawwad Ahmed Cheema as its Chief Executive Officer for a tenure of three years, effective May 18, 2026, succeeding interim CEO Abdus Sami.

As disclosed in a filing submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the appointment was approved by the company’s Board of Management during its meeting held on April 11, 2026.

Jawwad Ahmed Cheema brings over 28 years of professional experience in the downstream energy sector, including approximately two decades in senior corporate leadership roles spanning Asia-Pacific, Europe, and South Asia. His expertise encompasses retail fuel operations, lubricants, storage infrastructure, supply chain management, and strategic planning.

He previously served for 26 years with Royal Dutch Shell, where he advanced from retail operations in Pakistan to senior global leadership positions, undertaking assignments in Indonesia, Singapore, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

During his tenure as Chief Executive Officer of Shell Pakistan Limited, Cheema led significant strategic and operational transformations, while also contributing to global portfolio strategy, business operations, and market expansion initiatives, including oversight of turnaround and divestment projects.

Most recently, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Karachi Hydrocarbon Terminal under VTTI B.V., where he managed petroleum import and distribution operations at Port Qasim.

In addition to executive leadership roles, Cheema has held several board-level positions, including Chairman of Shell Pakistan Limited, as well as directorships at Pakistan Refinery Limited and Pakistan Arab Pipeline Company, contributing to governance and oversight of key segments of Pakistan’s downstream energy infrastructure.
