Punjab Recovers State Land Worth Rs433 Billion

The National Accountability Bureau and the Board of Revenue Punjab have recovered approximately 25,444 kanals of state-owned land, valued at nearly Rs433 billion, from unlawful occupation during fiscal year 2025-26 as part of a province-wide enforcement initiative.

According to officials, the recovery campaign commenced in September 2025 and involved extensive verification of revenue records, demarcation of government-owned properties, and coordinated enforcement operations conducted across multiple districts of Punjab.

Authorities stated that the recovered assets comprise both agricultural and commercial properties that have now been restored to government ownership following completion of the recovery process.

To institutionalise and accelerate future recovery efforts, the provincial government has established the Punjab State Assets Task Force. The task force has been assigned responsibility for identifying, recovering, and securing illegally occupied state assets, while also overseeing the documented disposal of recovered properties in collaboration with the Board of Revenue.

Officials noted that any disposal or transfer of recovered assets will be conducted through transparent and auditable procedures designed to safeguard public property, ensure accountability, and maintain comprehensive records of subsequent transactions.

The government has also encouraged citizens to report instances of illegal occupation of public land through the official complaint management portal. Authorities stated that all complaints will be reviewed for appropriate action and that management and utilisation of recovered assets will remain subject to documented oversight mechanisms.

During the briefing, the Board of Revenue further highlighted a number of administrative and revenue-sector reforms implemented during the fiscal year to improve governance and enhance revenue collection.

According to the department, approximately Rs9.97 billion was recovered in agricultural income tax during the reporting period.

The Board of Revenue also reported significant progress in land administration reforms, including the digitisation of millions of land records and the introduction of Geographic Information System (GIS)-based property certification systems aimed at improving record accuracy, verification processes, and overall land management transparency.

The recovery initiative and accompanying reforms form part of broader efforts to protect public assets, strengthen land governance, improve revenue administration, and enhance transparency in the management of state-owned property.
