Government Lowers Petrol And Diesel Prices

The federal government has announced a reduction in domestic petroleum product prices under its fortnightly pricing review mechanism, lowering the rates of both motor spirit (petrol) and high-speed diesel (HSD) with effect from June 13, 2026.

According to an official notification, the price of motor spirit has been reduced by Rs4 per litre. Consequently, the revised retail price has been fixed at Rs373.78 per litre, compared with the previous rate of Rs377.78 per litre.

Similarly, the government has reduced the price of high-speed diesel by Rs2 per litre. The revised HSD price now stands at Rs378.78 per litre, down from the earlier rate of Rs380.78 per litre.

The revised rates became effective from June 13, 2026, in accordance with the government's regular petroleum pricing framework, which periodically adjusts domestic fuel prices on the basis of international oil market developments, import parity calculations, exchange rate considerations, and other relevant pricing factors.

The latest adjustment is expected to provide limited relief to consumers, transport operators, and agricultural stakeholders, as fuel prices remain a significant component of transportation, logistics, and production costs across various sectors of the economy. Changes in fuel prices are also closely monitored due to their influence on inflationary trends and the pricing of essential commodities.

Industry sources indicated that the reduction reflects recent movements in global oil markets and corresponding adjustments in import-related cost calculations used in determining domestic petroleum prices.

Motor spirit remains the most widely consumed transportation fuel in Pakistan and is primarily utilised by private vehicles, motorcycles, rickshaws, and small passenger cars. Demand for petrol is largely driven by household transportation requirements, urban commuting patterns, vehicle ownership levels, and broader economic activity. Variations in fuel prices can have a direct impact on consumer spending behaviour, particularly among middle and lower-income segments of the population.

In contrast, high-speed diesel serves as a critical input for the country's economic and logistics infrastructure. The fuel is extensively used in commercial transportation, freight operations, agricultural machinery, public transport fleets, and industrial logistics activities.

As a result, fluctuations in HSD consumption are frequently regarded as an indicator of economic performance, reflecting the movement of goods, agricultural activity, and overall industrial output. Changes in diesel prices therefore carry broader implications for supply chain costs, trade activity, and production expenses across multiple sectors of the economy.
