Petrol Crosses Rs390 as Diesel Prices Drop in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has raised petrol prices by Rs3.26 per litre while cutting the rate of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs1.01 per litre under the revised petroleum prices effective October 2, 2026.

Petrol, officially classified as Motor Spirit, will now cost Rs390.66 per litre, up from the previous rate of Rs387.40, reflecting an increase of Rs3.26 per litre.

Meanwhile, high-speed diesel has become slightly cheaper, with its price falling from Rs400.35 to Rs399.34 per litre, offering consumers a reduction of Rs1.01 per litre.

The Petroleum Division stated that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had adjusted the rates in accordance with the federal government’s established petroleum pricing mechanism.

According to the division, fluctuations in international Platts prices, premiums and incidental costs, alongside developments in global markets, prompted the latest revision.

The updated rates mean petrol users will have to spend more on fuel, whereas diesel consumers will receive a modest reduction in their per-litre expenses.

The petrol increase is likely to add to fuel costs for motorists, daily commuters and other users of petrol-powered vehicles, with the price now exceeding Rs390 per litre.

Diesel consumers, including transport operators and businesses reliant on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, will receive limited relief from the Rs1.01 reduction. However, the revised diesel rate remains close to the Rs400-per-litre mark.

The revised petroleum prices take effect on October 2, 2026, as part of the government’s petroleum pricing mechanism.
