Petroleum Sales Hit 1.48m Tonnes; HSD Rises 26%

Pakistan's Petroleum Sales Reach 1.48 Million Tonnes in October 2026

Pakistan's petroleum product sales stood at 1.48 million tonnes in October 2026, registering a 1% decline year-on-year but a 10% increase month-on-month. The monthly growth was mainly driven by a seasonal recovery in high-speed diesel (HSD) demand, according to oil marketing company (OMC) sales data.

During the first four months of FY27, cumulative petroleum sales reached 5.6 million tonnes, marking a 4% increase compared with the same period last year. The growth was largely supported by higher furnace oil consumption.

Excluding furnace oil, October petroleum sales totalled 1.38 million tonnes, down 6% year-on-year but up 10% from the previous month. Total sales during July-October FY27 reached 5.2 million tonnes, reflecting a 2% annual decline.

Petrol sales dropped 2% on both annual and monthly comparisons to 642,000 tonnes in October. HSD sales declined 7% year-on-year but climbed 26% month-on-month to 662,000 tonnes, supported by stronger seasonal demand.

Average motor spirit (petrol) prices increased 46% year-on-year to Rs387 per litre, while HSD prices rose 45% to Rs396 per litre.

Meanwhile, furnace oil sales jumped 3.4 times year-on-year to 95,000 tonnes, with a further 2% increase compared with September. The surge was primarily linked to LNG shortages, which led to greater dependence on furnace oil for power generation.

Company-wise Performance

Pakistan State Oil (PSO) recorded October sales of 693,000 tonnes, rising 8% year-on-year and month-on-month. Despite the higher sales, its overall market share fell by 61 basis points from the previous month to 46.9%. Its petrol and HSD market shares declined by 227 and 143 basis points, respectively.

Wafi Energy posted sales of 136,000 tonnes, its highest monthly volume in 52 months. This represented growth of 12% year-on-year and 24% month-on-month.

Attock Petroleum Limited (APL) sold 123,000 tonnes, down 1% annually but up 6% compared with September. Its market share decreased by 31 basis points to 8.31%.

Hascol Petroleum recorded sales of 39,000 tonnes, representing a 6% year-on-year decline and a 5% monthly increase.

Among listed oil marketing companies, PSO and Wafi Energy were the only firms to achieve sales growth on both annual and monthly bases during October.
