Petrol Falls to Rs369.06, Diesel Rises to Rs398.88

Petrol Price Cut by Rs5.45, Diesel Increased by Rs3.68 Per Litre

The government has reduced petrol prices by Rs5.45 per litre while raising the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs3.68 per litre. Following the revision, petrol will cost Rs369.06 per litre and diesel Rs398.88 per litre, effective November 4, 2026.

According to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the ex-depot price of petrol has decreased from Rs374.51 to Rs369.06 per litre. Meanwhile, the price of HSD has risen from Rs395.20 to Rs398.88 per litre under the daily petroleum pricing mechanism.

The petrol price reduction is expected to offer some relief to millions of motorcycle users, private car owners and rickshaw operators who rely on petrol-powered vehicles for everyday transportation.

Petrol, also known as Motor Spirit (MS), is commonly used in motorcycles, cars, auto-rickshaws and other light vehicles. Its price has a direct impact on household transport expenses, particularly for middle- and lower-income families who depend on motorcycles to travel to workplaces, educational institutions and markets.

At the revised rate, consumers purchasing 20 litres of petrol will save Rs109, while those buying 40 litres will save Rs218 compared with the previous price.

Diesel Increase and Its Economic Impact

The increase in high-speed diesel prices has broader economic implications because diesel is heavily used across Pakistan's transportation, agriculture and industrial sectors.

Heavy commercial vehicles, including trucks, trailers and buses, primarily run on diesel. They transport essential commodities, agricultural produce, industrial raw materials and other goods throughout the country.

Diesel is also widely used in tractors, harvesters, tube-well engines and other agricultural machinery. As a result, price changes directly influence farmers' operating expenses, including land preparation, irrigation and harvesting costs.

The Rs3.68 per litre increase is expected to raise operating expenses for farmers, transport operators and businesses that rely on diesel-powered vehicles and machinery.

Higher diesel costs can also push up freight transportation expenses, potentially putting additional pressure on the prices of food items, agricultural produce, construction materials and other essential commodities.

However, the actual impact on consumers will depend on whether transport operators, suppliers and businesses transfer these additional expenses through higher freight charges, passenger fares and commodity prices.

The latest petroleum price adjustment provides some relief to petrol users while increasing costs for sectors dependent on diesel. Its wider effect on inflation will depend on how these opposing price movements influence transportation, agricultural operations and supply-chain expenses.
