Petrol Drops to Rs376.06 as Diesel Climbs to Rs398.07

ISLAMABAD: The government has reduced petrol prices by Rs3.19 per litre to Rs376.06 while increasing high-speed diesel (HSD) prices by Rs2.25 to Rs398.07 per litre, offering limited relief to petrol consumers while raising costs for diesel users.

According to the Petroleum Division, the revised rates took effect on October 28. Petrol prices declined from Rs379.25 to Rs376.06 per litre, while diesel increased from Rs395.82 to Rs398.07 per litre.

The petrol price reduction is expected to provide some relief to motorcyclists, private car owners and other consumers who rely on petrol for daily transportation. The actual savings will depend on individual fuel consumption.

In contrast, the increase in diesel prices is likely to raise operating expenses for public transport services, freight companies, agricultural machinery operators and other businesses dependent on diesel-powered vehicles. These higher costs could put additional pressure on transport fares and the prices of essential goods.

Diesel plays a major role in transporting commodities across Pakistan. Its rising price can increase expenses for businesses and traders, potentially affecting consumers if additional transportation and operating costs are passed on. The extent of any price impact will depend on transport operators, suppliers and prevailing market conditions.

The Petroleum Division said the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) revised ex-depot prices under the federal government's petroleum pricing mechanism. The adjustment took into account changes in international Platts rates, premiums and other incidental charges.

The latest revision comes as households continue to face pressure from fuel expenses and transportation costs, which also influence the prices of goods and services.
