NAB Reports ₨14.485 Trillion Recoveries Since 2023

The National Accountability Bureau informed the Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works that recoveries amounting to ₨14.485 trillion were secured between June 2023 and March 2026, including the repossession of approximately 4.96 million acres of government and forest land estimated at nearly ₨14 trillion.

The disclosure was made during the committee’s visit to NAB headquarters, where Chairman Nazir Ahmed presented an overview of the bureau’s recent operational performance and institutional restructuring measures designed to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the investigation of white-collar financial crimes.

NAB officials further stated that the bureau facilitated compensation for 129,272 victims affected by housing and financial scams through disbursements totaling ₨223.94 billion during the reviewed timeframe.

The committee, chaired by Nasir Mehmood, was additionally briefed that 39 major anti-money laundering investigations involving assets valued at ₨127 billion remain under active proceedings. According to NAB, assets worth ₨85.4 billion connected to these cases have already been frozen under applicable legal mechanisms.

During the meeting, committee members expressed concerns regarding alleged irregularities and compliance failures in both public and private housing projects operating across the country.

In response, Chairman NAB Lt-Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed stated that regulatory and structural reforms are being introduced within the housing sector to support industry revival while simultaneously minimising avenues for corruption and financial misconduct.
