Govt Presents FY25 Accounts, Audit Reports in Assembly

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday formally laid before the National Assembly the Appropriation Accounts of the Government of Pakistan for FY2024-25, along with the audit reports relating to the accounts of the Federation for Audit Year 2025-26.

The audit reports, prepared by the Auditor-General of Pakistan, were presented in compliance with Article 171 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which governs the submission of federal audit reports to the President for laying before Parliament.

According to the Finance Division, this marks the first occasion on which audit reports have been presented before Parliament within the same financial year to which the audit cycle pertains, representing a notable procedural development in Pakistan’s public financial reporting framework.

Speaking at the time of presentation, the finance minister stated that the timely laying of audit reports strengthens transparency, accountability, and parliamentary oversight over public finances. He noted that presenting the reports within the same financial year allows Parliament to examine audit observations while the underlying issues remain current, relevant, and capable of corrective action.

Senator Aurangzeb also acknowledged the efforts of the Auditor-General of Pakistan and his team for completing the audit process within the revised timeline, describing the development as an important step toward improving the efficiency of the public accountability system.

The Finance Division further highlighted that this year’s exercise also introduced digital dissemination of audit reports to Parliament for the first time. Under the new arrangement, members of Parliament were provided electronic access to the audit reports, supporting the transition toward a more paperless and digitally integrated parliamentary process.

According to the division, the practice of digitally sharing audit reports will continue in future years as part of broader governance reforms aimed at promoting digital administration, improving accessibility of public accountability documents, and modernising legislative processes.

The timely submission and digital circulation of the audit reports are being presented as part of the government’s wider efforts to strengthen public financial accountability, enhance transparency in the management of state resources, and improve Parliament’s ability to exercise effective oversight over federal expenditure and fiscal governance.
