FBR Mandates Retail Price Display on 56 Goods

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has instructed all manufacturers and importers of the 56 products specified under the Third Schedule of the Sales Tax Act to prominently display both the retail price and the applicable sales tax amount on every product offered for sale.

The directive was issued through Sales Tax General Order No. 8 of 2026, reinforcing compliance requirements for goods covered under the Third Schedule.

According to the FBR, taxable supplies and imported goods falling within the Third Schedule remain subject to sales tax at the standard rate of 18% of the retail price.

Under the order, manufacturers—and importers in the case of imported products—must ensure that the retail price and corresponding sales tax amount are clearly, permanently, and prominently printed or embossed on every packet, container, package, wrapper, cover, or product label.

The FBR stated that it had identified multiple instances where the retail price on Third Schedule goods was either omitted, displayed in an unclear manner, or concealed by packaging designs, logos, colour patterns, backgrounds, or other printed elements.

According to the tax authority, such practices hinder the accurate determination of the retail price, creating difficulties in the proper assessment, levy, and collection of sales tax.

To strengthen compliance and improve tax administration, the FBR has directed all manufacturers and importers to ensure that retail prices and sales tax amounts are displayed in a manner that is clear, legible, prominent, and indelible on all applicable products.
