Lahore Ring Road Fines Rise to Rs10,000 for Major Violations

The Lahore Ring Road Authority (LRRA) has revised its traffic penalty schedule, raising fines for several violations to as much as Rs10,000. The penalty for driving without a valid licence has increased tenfold, from Rs500 to Rs5,000.

The updated fines cover multiple offences, including speeding, dangerous overtaking, illegal parking, overloading, wrong-lane driving, tinted windows, unauthorised motorcycle entry and illegal pedestrian crossings.

Under the revised schedule, improper overtaking will attract a Rs5,000 fine for cars and Rs10,000 for vehicles with engine capacities above 2,000cc. The same penalties will apply to speeding, depending on the vehicle's engine capacity.

Driving in the wrong lane will result in a Rs2,000 fine, while travelling against traffic on a one-way stretch will cost motorists Rs5,000.

The penalty for overloading has increased from Rs2,000 to Rs7,000, while fines for illegal parking have doubled from Rs1,000 to Rs2,000.

Vehicles emitting excessive smoke will face penalties of Rs4,000 for private cars and Rs5,000 for commercial vehicles. Underage driving will carry a fine of Rs10,000.

Motorists using black-tinted window films or non-standard number plates will be fined Rs5,000. Motorcycles entering the Ring Road will also attract a Rs5,000 penalty.

The fine for pedestrians crossing the Ring Road unlawfully has risen from Rs200 to Rs1,000. Meanwhile, bringing cattle onto the road will result in a Rs5,000 fine.

Penalties for using a mobile phone while driving or failing to wear a seatbelt have increased from Rs500 to Rs3,000.

At a recent performance review meeting, officials reported that Ring Road police had taken action against 1,783 drivers without licences and 2,088 smoke-emitting vehicles during September.

Authorities also fined 6,183 vehicles for overloading and took action against 3,095 vehicles operating without number plates. Another 446 vehicles were penalised for having tinted windows.

Police further fined 281 motorcycles and issued challans to 2,793 people for crossing the road at unauthorised locations.

Speeding violations resulted in penalties against 5,322 vehicles, while 1,447 people were fined for not wearing seatbelts.

Officials also registered 72 cases involving negligent driving and speeding, with several drivers taken into custody.

During the meeting, Punjab Ring Road Authority Chairperson Safi Ullah Gondal instructed police to intensify enforcement against speeding, unauthorised motorcycle entry and illegal pedestrian crossings to help reduce road accidents.

The latest changes follow earlier increases in traffic penalties introduced by Lahore's city traffic police.

Under the separate city traffic police schedule, speeding fines range from Rs2,000 for motorcycles to Rs20,000 for cars with engine capacities above 2,000cc and public service vehicles.

Driving without a licence carries fines of Rs2,000 for motorcycles, Rs3,000 for three-wheelers and Rs5,000 for cars with engines below 2,000cc. The penalty rises to Rs10,000 for larger cars and Rs15,000 for public service vehicles.
